Welcome to DX COMPLEX's first compilation! On March 18th, we will be randomly selecting a theme that will serve as a prompt, and you will have 48 hours to create a piece of music that fits this theme. We will then release this on major streaming services via Soundrop with all proceeds going back to the writer for each individual song, as well as a free release on Bandcamp. We're hoping it's gonna be a good time and would love for you to join us. The event will be held on our Discord server, which you can join by clicking here!
What kind of music will you be accepting?
Anything that fits the theme! The simplest ukelele doodle and the most ornate electronic production are both equally welcome, as long as they're longer than a minute. The kind of work you can get done in a weekend might not be up to your usual standards, and that's ok! This event is about having an excuse to shed those inhabitions and Write a Music, no judgement.
Do I need to commit for a full weekend?
We're not expecting you to put in a full 48 hours of work, as a matter a fact we strongly discourage it. If all you want to commit is an hour or so one evening then we're just as glad to have you! This event is modelled after game jams, but even in the most lax jams a musician often makes more than one song, so ideally this is much less of a commitment. We certainly don't expect you to be reachable at all times either, but do please communicate your schedule with your teammates if you have any.
Can I work alone? Can I work with other people?
You can do both! You are more than welcome to go it alone, or you can bring as many friends along as you'd like. You can also show up alone and ask for collaborators and staff will do their best to help you find someone.
Is this a competition?
Nope! Even if you're working alone, we're all on the same team.
Do I need to be an experienced musician to participate?
Nope! If you're looking into get into music but you don't know where to start or you're afraid, come along for the ride and by the end of the weekend you will have taken the first step of your journey and have helped write at least one song, even if we have to teach you the basics from scratch.
